Timing is Everything – Plan Now for Year-End Mailings
Timing is everything. Start planning your year-end mailings now and allow the USPS extra time to deliver your mail pieces. These are some timing issues to consider:
- The USPS “Delivering for America” reorganization and consolidation plan is currently causing mail and package delivery delays in some major markets.
- US election season means heavy mail volume at the post office. Try to refrain from mailing a week before and after an election. There is so much campaign mail being processed at that time that it can cause delays for direct mail, plus it can compete for your donors’ attention.
- Get ahead of the year-end rush for nonprofit fundraising appeals and gala event invitations. Plan for about three weeks delivery time during the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve.
- Make sure to seed yourself on each mailing, so you can gauge approximate delivery time.
